WHAT CHURCHES CAN DO…

Outreach = Reaching Out!

Ø  Pray for the men of women of public safety as well as their families. Offer support and encouragement. Offer support and activities that are friendly to the spouses and children since they may be attending church functions without their first responder spouse.

Ø  Host a special service or event honoring your local first responders and show appreciation from your church and community.

Ø  Support a Community Service Chaplain. Churches may provide financing for the cost of basic training and continuing education for the chaplain.

Ø  Provide spiritual encouragement and counseling. First Responders are faced with many difficult challenges at work as well as at home. These challenges may be totally foreign to the average citizen. First Responders should be led to feel comfortable talking to a local pastor.

Ø  Create and maintain a family-friendly atmosphere. Provide spiritual alternatives to outside activities that may not reflect or support spiritual values.

Ø  Understand and be respectful of First Responder schedules. Offer prayer for those who are missing church due to being on duty.

Ø  Take the time necessary to get to know any first responders who may be members or regular attendees of your church. Not only could it make the responder feel more comfortable, it could give church leadership valuable insight to community issues and trends.

Ø  Understand that, at times, your First Responders may have to attend a service or function in uniform. Avoid making an issue of it.

Ø  Adopt a station or precinct. Churches that are especially close may offer meals, snacks or regular visitations. This is a great evangelistic outreach!

Ø  Sponsor individuals or couples to Christian retreats, family or individual counseling services. You can do a full scholarship or partial. Assistance can be offered in registration costs, meals, lodging, transportation and childcare. Centurion’s Faith has several ministries and organizations that we can and will be glad to recommend to you. Simply call or write and we can put you in the right direction.
